Whitney Herrelson E-Portfolio

Certified Professional Midwife
Licensed Midwife

I began my journey into reproductive health with the homebirth of my first son.  I then became a doula and childbirth educator with Birth Arts International in 2013, and began my Bachelor’s of Science in Midwifery at the Midwives College of Utah in 2017. In 2018, my family relocated from the US Virgin Islands to Maui, Hawai'i, where I continue serving families during their childbearing years as a Certified Professional Midwife
I am the owner of Maui Midwifery, and I help facilitate monthly meetings in the Maui Midwifery Study Group.
Outside the classroom and clinical work, I keep busy with family beach days, hiking, and waterfall explorations.

My philosophy of practice:
Pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy, and momentous life events. The midwife promotes pregnancy as a state of wellness through health promotion. The midwife recognizes birthing person as a primary decision-maker, and upholds the ethical values of shared decision-making and shared responsibility built on mutual respect and trust between provider and client. All birthing people have a right to equitable access to and quality of midwifery care regardless of a person’s socioeconomic status, race, cultural beliefs, sexual orientation, ability, gender identity, or religion. The role as the care provider is to uphold the rights of birthing people, provide compassionate and individualized care, set parameters for safety, and facilitate shared decision-making.

Quinn Oglesby
Doula Client

I would be honored to work beside Whitney in any capacity regarding the sacred birthing arts. She is someone that I would trust to provide professional, evidenced based, culturally competent, holistic care for all families. She was the first person that I would recommend for compassionate doula care and comprehensive childbirth education classes in our community. I have a whole hearted belief that she will be an incredible and sacred midwife.
